Iran Navy received the Zagros, marking the introduction of its first sophisticated destroyer designed for signals intelligence operations
The Iranian naval defense industry has officially transferred its first domestically produced "signals-intelligence" destroyer to the nation's Navy, marking a significant advancement in Iran's indigenous military capabilities.
In a ceremonial event held on Wednesday, the Navy took delivery of the vessel named Zagros. The ceremony was attended by Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, along with prominent senior military and government officials, as well as leading scientists.
Irani hailed the Zagros as the “watchful eye of the Navy in the vast expanses of the world’s oceans,” lauding the accomplishment as a “significant milestone” for the military capabilities of the Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces. He emphasized that the ship has been equipped with cutting-edge electromagnetic, electronic, and cyber technologies.
The commander stated that, despite being guided by directives of caution through the appropriate chain of command, their continuous efforts aim to ensure that their performance remains a point of pride for the Islamic Republic’s establishment.
He expressed confidence that the Navy’s advancements would gain the approval of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution, as well as satisfy the nation’s military commanders and honor the sacrifices of those martyred in defense of the country.
Rear Admiral Irani highlighted that the entirety of the ship’s equipment is domestically produced, underscoring that the Iranian Navy has successfully fulfilled the nation’s defense requirements through its strategic intelligence operations. This achievement is part of broader efforts to maintain robust naval security across various maritime regions, such as the Indian and Pacific Oceans, alongside other critical waterways.
The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic, encompassing both the national Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), have been persistently advancing their military capabilities and combat preparedness in accordance with the directives of Ayatollah Khamenei.
The military forces have pledged to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against threats posed by adversaries of Iran.
