Iran president-elect: My administration will open up new foreign policy horizons
Iranian President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian says his administration will open up new foreign policy horizons in the expansion of cordial relations with other countries.
Pezeshkian made the remarks on Friday in response to phone calls and written messages he received from heads of state and authorities from more than 40 countries to extend their congratulations to him over his election as Iran’s new president.
“The main foreign policy approach of the new administration will be the opening up of new horizons and expanding all-out friendly relations with other governments based on dialogue, cooperation, equality and mutual respect,” he said.
The former heart surgeon emphasized that his administration will attach special importance to promoting relations with neighbors and regional countries.
Iran’s president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian invites the regional Arab countries to engage in “constructive dialog” with the Islamic Republic.
The president-elect has so far received phone calls or written messages from leaders and top officials of countries such as Russia, China, Kuwait, the UAE, Iraq, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Algeria.
Mauritania, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Belarus, Georgia, Cuba, Bolivia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Ethiopia, South Africa, Seychelles, India, Maldives, Turkey, Serbia, Croatia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea and North Korea are among other countries whose authorities congratulated Pezeshkian.
Pezeshkian emerged victorious in the second round of the presidential vote on July 5. He garnered more than 16 million votes against ex-nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili, who secured upwards of 13 million out of over 30 million votes cast, with the voter turnout standing at almost 50 percent.
Iran’s Constitutional Council on Sunday confirmed the result of the presidential runoff election.
Pezeshkian is scheduled to be endorsed by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on July 28 during a ceremony with the participation of Iranian authorities and high-ranking officials.
After having his mandate endorsed by Ayatollah Khamenei, the Iranian president-elect will take the oath of office to be officially inaugurated as the ninth president of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Iranian parliament on July 30.
