Iran’s Foreign Ministry has declared Israel’s assault on a journalists’ vehicle in Gaza to be a “war crime”
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson has denounced an intentional strike by the Israeli government on the Gaza Strip, labeling it a "war crime." The attack reportedly resulted in the death of at least five Palestinian journalists.
Esmaeil Baqaei, on Thursday, condemned the attack on the journalists’ vehicle, labeling it as unequivocally a war crime allegedly perpetrated by occupying forces.
He emphasized that under international humanitarian law, journalists and media personnel operating in conflict zones are classified as civilians and must be afforded protection from any form of attack.
An Iranian spokesperson has urged the International Court of Justice to incorporate Israel’s recent actions into the ongoing genocide case concerning its alleged criminal activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.
He highlighted the deaths of over 200 journalists in a 15-month period during Israel’s military operations in Gaza, describing it as part of efforts to suppress global awareness of the alleged crimes against the Palestinian population.
An Iranian diplomat has cautioned that Israel’s ongoing violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza, coupled with the insufficient response from global institutions tasked with addressing such actions, risk undermining the credibility of international war norms and regulations.
In a recent development, five journalists lost their lives when Israeli warplanes targeted a vehicle transporting media personnel near Al-Awda Hospital in central Gaza on Thursday morning.
Journalists affiliated with the Al-Quds Al-Youm TV channel have been involved in reporting activities.
According to Palestinian media and local journalists, a vehicle marked with the word “Press” in red lettering was utilized by reporters to cover events from within the hospital and the Nuseirat camp.
According to a statement released last week by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, over 190 journalists have lost their lives and at least 400 have sustained injuries amid ongoing conflict in Gaza, described as an aggressive military campaign by Israel.
