Iraqi commander: Remaining ISIS fighters in Mosul are mostly foreigners
Foreign militants fighting for ISIS in Mosul’s Old City include Uzbek, Uighur and members from French-speaking countries, IraqiNews quoted an Iraqi army officer as saying.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdul-Salam al-Jubouri said that the majority of the remaining ISIS fighters come from “the Uzbek battalion”, the “Uighur battalion” and the “Tarek ibn Ziyad battalion”, the latter comprising French-speaking members.
He revealed that the remaining foreign fighters are putting in a ferocious fight because of the difficult conditions imposed on them by government forces.
The Uighurs are a Muslim minority from China’s western Xinjiang province.
