Iraqi forces advance on key area west of Mosul
The Iraqi Armed Forces continued their advance in the Al-Qahtaniyah area of west Mosul, today, the official media of the pro-government Popular Mobilization Units (Hashd Al-Sha’abi) reported this morning.
The Popular Mobilization Units attacked ISIL defenses from two axes near Al-Qahtaniyah, inflicting heavy damage on the terrorist group’s assault. .
According to local activists, the Iraqi Armed Forces are closing-in on the Al-Qahtaniyah area, using an enveloping maneuver to pressure the terrorists to abandon their positions west of Mosul.
Once Al-Qahtaniyah is liberated, the Iraqi Armed Forces will be in position to strike the strategic town of Tal ‘Afar, which is considered one of the ISIL’s last strongholds in the Nineveh Governorate.
