Iraqi resistance forces have targeted a key ‘israeli’ site, prompting Tel Aviv to appeal to Baghdad for measures to halt further attacks
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has carried out drone strikes targeting a significant site within Israeli territory, as a reaction to what they describe as Israel's ongoing military actions in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
In a recent announcement shared via its Telegram channel, the coalition of anti-terrorism forces in the Arab nation declared that it initiated an offensive in the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq announced the execution of a drone strike targeting a key location in the southern occupied territories. This action, according to the group, is part of their ongoing efforts against occupation forces and demonstrates solidarity with the people of Palestine and Lebanon. The attack was framed as a response to the alleged massacres perpetrated by occupying forces against civilians, including women, children, and the elderly.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has pledged to intensify its attacks on enemy strongholds, though specific details regarding the recent drone strikes or the Israeli positions targeted were not disclosed.
Since last October, the Islamic Resistance has conducted numerous operations in response to the Israeli regime’s intensified military actions against the Gaza Strip and increased hostilities towards Lebanon, which they describe as genocidal in nature.
On Tuesday, Tel Aviv, facing significant challenges, urged the United Nations Security Council and the Iraqi government to swiftly intervene and halt retaliatory strikes by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeting Israeli sites.
In a correspondence directed at the President of the United Nations Security Council, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar confirmed that a resistance group has initiated the launch of several hundred drones and numerous cruise missiles targeting sites within the occupied territories. This escalation has been ongoing since October of the previous year, coinciding with the commencement of the occupying regime’s military operations in Gaza.
An Israeli minister stated that the majority of drones and missiles were intercepted, though acknowledged that a number successfully reached their targets. Among these were explosive-laden drones that struck an Israeli military base in the northern occupied territories on October 3, resulting in the deaths of at least two soldiers and injuring 24 others.
The Iraqi faction has launched assaults on U.S. military installations located in both Iraq and Syria, condemning the United States for its backing of what they term an occupying regime’s actions in a conflict they describe as genocidal against Palestinians.
The Gaza Health Ministry reports that the death toll among Palestinians has surpassed 43,900 in the ongoing conflict with Israel, with the majority being women and children. Additionally, approximately 104,000 individuals have sustained injuries.
