IRGC Chief: Iran actively working towards the downfall of Israel; Tehran remains unaffected by the ongoing situation in Syria
The top commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced that Iran is actively working towards the collapse of the Zionist regime. He emphasized that the Iranian Armed Forces have strategically targeted the key interests of their adversaries throughout West Asia.
Major General Hossein Salami addressed the Iranian Parliament in a confidential briefing session on Tuesday to discuss the evolving situation in Syria. This follows recent developments where militants, led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), have taken control of the capital, Damascus, and announced the conclusion of President Bashar al-Assad’s 24-year tenure.
In a press briefing following the parliamentary session, Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, conveyed that the chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) delivered a comprehensive assessment of the current situation in West Asia. According to Rezaei, the IRGC leader affirmed that Iran’s influence and power projection in the region remain intact, with no diminishment in its military capabilities.
Salami emphasized that efforts to dismantle the Zionist regime remain a top priority for the Islamic Republic, highlighting the significant impact of the late Iranian anti-terror commander, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, in defeating the Takfiri Daesh terrorist organization, according to statements made by Rezaei.
According to an Iranian legislator, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) emphasized that factions aligned with the Axis of Resistance have achieved self-sufficiency in the production of diverse munitions and military equipment.
Ahmad Naderi, a member of Iran’s Parliamentary Presiding Board, reported that a confidential briefing session primarily focused on discussing Iran’s regional military strategies, Israel’s offensive actions, and potential responses to these. The session also addressed the security, intelligence, and military dynamics across West Asia.
During the session, discussions were held concerning the collapse of the Assad regime and potential future developments in the region. It was emphasized that Iranian military advisors were stationed in Syria until the final days of the previous government. However, according to Naderi, no such advisors are currently deployed in the Arab nation.
In a coordinated assault on November 27, militant groups launched an unexpected two-pronged offensive targeting the city of Aleppo and rural areas surrounding Idlib in Syria.
Shortly thereafter, forces gained control over several prominent Syrian cities, such as Hama, Homs, Dara’a, and Suwayda, culminating in their entry into the capital, Damascus, on December 8.
Militant factions, spearheaded by fighters from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), have declared the complete seizure of Damascus and verified the downfall of President Bashar al-Assad’s administration.
