ISIL Loses Ground in Al-Hasakah: Syrian Army Captures the East District of Al-Nishwa
For the first time in almost a week, the Syrian Arab Army’s 154th Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division and their allies have reentered the eastern district of the Al-Nishwa Quarter, resulting in ISIL withdrawal to the west district’s frontlines.
The SAA’s 154th Brigade’s assault began at 8:30 A.M. (Al-Hasakah Time) on Saturday morning, when they began to bombard the east district of Al-Nishwa with a barrage of mortar shells from their positions at the Al-Hasakah Villas.
Following their morning of non-stop shelling, the SAA’s 154th Brigade – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF), the 123rd Brigade, and the Sootooro Brigades (Assyrian militia) – stormed ISIL’ positions at the eastern flank of the Al-Nishwa Quarter, where they eventually overwhelmed the terrorist group and took control of the entire east district.
The militants from ISIL were forced to retreat to Hosh Al-Ba’er, the Al-Hasakah Electrical Facility, and the Al-Hasakah Mall inside the west district of Al-Nishwa, leaving the Syrian Armed Forces in full-control of the east district.
In addition to their advance in the Al-Nishwa Quarter, the Syrian Armed Forces advanced deep into the Al-Liliyah Quarter after carrying out a powerful assault on the entrenched ISIS fighters, killing over 40 plus enemy combatants from the terrorist group, while also destroying three armored vehicles that were mounted with 23mm anti-aircraft machine guns.
To the south of the Al-Liliyah Quarter, the militants from ISIS conducted another assault on the Syrian Armed Forces’ frontline defenses at the Al-Ahdath Juvenile Detention Facilit, resulting in a series of intense clashes between the two opposing parties – ISIL was unable to breach the Syrian Armed Forces’ defenses.
According to a military source in the provincial capital, a number of ISIS fighters have been spotted wearing Syrian Arab Army battlefield fatigues, which has allowed for them to breach the Syrian Armed Forces’ frontlines.
