Ki-moon: Preparation for Geneva3 conference on Syria to start
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday announced that preparations are to start for holding a third conference on Syria “Geneva 3”.
Russian ITAR-TASS news agency quoted Ki-moon as saying in a press conference in Brussels that the Geneva 2 conference, whose two rounds of talks were held in January and February, didn’t bring about much results.
“The UN must mobilize the political will of the international community and that the Geneva-2 conference had not yielded much prospects. The UN is working hard on preparing a Geneva-3 meeting,” Ki-moon added.
Earlier, Syria’s Permanent Representative to UN Bashar al-Jaafari expressed Syria’s readiness to take part in the upcoming rounds of talks for implementing the draft agenda that was agreed on in Geneva 2 and committing to the mechanisms of its implementation and entering a Syrian, regionally and internationally acceptable track for solving the crisis in Syria.
