Latest battle map of eastern Homs after Sukhnah’s liberation
It took exactly 50 months for the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to recover the strategic city of Al-Sukhnah and it could not come at a better time for the military, as they embark on the long journey to the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
The Syrian Army managed to liberate Al-Sukhnah last night when their forces overran the Islamic State’s last line of defense near the city-center.
Once the Islamic State’s last line of defense broke, the Syrian Arab Army was able to sweep into the eastern neighborhoods until the terrorist group had fully abandoned the city.
The Syrian Army has still not entered some part of the city due to the large presence of IEDs and land mines; however, sappers are currently working to resolve this issue.
With Al-Sukhnah under their control, the Syrian Army will likely focus on clearing the Islamic State’s last presence in central Syria before embarking towards the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
