Leader congratulates junior Iranian wrestlers on winning world titles
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has extended a message of congratulation to the Iran national under-20 Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling teams for winning world championship titles in recent competitions in Jordan.
“The dear youths in the national Greco-Roman wrestling team did make the Iranian nation happy with their victory,” the Leader wrote in his message on Monday.
Ayatollah Khamenei went on to extend his gratitude to young Iranian wrestlers and sports officials for the successes they could achieve over the past two weeks.
Iranian U-20 Greco-Roman wrestlers claimed three gold medals, two silvers and one bronze to win the team title of the 2023 World Wrestling Championships in Amman, Jordan.
Ahmad Reza Mohsennezhad in the 63-kilogram, Alireza Abdevali in the 77-kilogram, and Fardin Hedayati in the 130-kilogram weight classes won three gold medals.
Yasin Yazdi in the 82-kilogram and Ali Choubani in the 87-kilogram divisions collected two silver medals, and Amir Reza Dehbozorgi in the 60-kilogram won a bronze.
Iran won the team title with 162 points. Georgia finished in second place with 89 points and Armenia came third with 88.
Earlier, Iran’s freestyle team won the title with 165 points, followed by the US and India with 152 and 102 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and acting Minister of Sport and Youth Kioumars Hashemi paid tribute to the victorious Iranian athletes and felicitated them on their notable achievements.
