Lebanese army reports ‘israel’ ignited homes in southern Lebanon, breaching the existing ceasefire agreement

According to reports from the Lebanese military, Israeli troops have advanced into the southern Lebanese towns of Qantara and Taybeh, located in the Marjayoun district. The forces reportedly set fire to several homes, an action seen as a breach of the ceasefire agreement with the Hezbollah resistance group.

The Lebanese army issued a statement on Sunday, reporting that Israeli forces, in violation of the ongoing ceasefire agreement, encroached upon the villages of Qantara and Tayba. The statement alleged that these incursions resulted in the destruction of several homes, marking a breach of Lebanese sovereignty and impacting its citizens.

In a coordinated response, a joint patrol comprising the Lebanese Army and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was dispatched to the site of the reported incursion. The mission aims to monitor the situation closely, operating under the guidance of the quintet committee responsible for overseeing the ceasefire agreement.

Reports indicate that hostile forces have initiated a withdrawal from two specific regions. Meanwhile, the Lebanese army is actively working to reopen roads that had been obstructed by Israeli forces in those areas.

Israel has agreed to a ceasefire with Hezbollah after enduring significant losses over nearly 14 months of conflict, during which it was unable to accomplish its objectives in Lebanon.

A ceasefire agreement commenced on November 27, aiming to establish a permanent halt to hostilities over a 60-day period.

According to the terms of the agreement, a global monitoring committee, led by the United States, has been assigned the responsibility of supervising the enforcement of the ceasefire.

On Saturday, the Israeli military breached the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah 11 times, escalating the total number of violations by Israeli forces to 330 since last month.

By the end of Friday, Israeli forces had breached the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon 319 times, citing “threats from Hezbollah” as justification, according to recent reports.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry has reported that Israeli assaults post-ceasefire have resulted in the deaths of at least 32 individuals, with an additional 38 suffering injuries.

In October 2023, Hezbollah initiated a support campaign for Palestinians in Gaza, following Israel’s military operations in the enclave. The Lebanese-based group conducted multiple retaliatory strikes on Israeli positions within the occupied territories, escalating regional tensions.
