Major General Maher Al-Assad named commander of Syrian Army’s elite 4th Division
Major General Maher Al-Assad has been officially named the commander of the Syrian Arab Army’s elite 4th Mechanized Division.
This appointment by the Syrian military is effective immediately, a source told Al-Masdar News.
Major General Assad had been a primary fixture in the 4th Division’s command for much of the war before he was officially appointed to this position.
Similar to his elder brothers, Bashar (President of Syria) and Bassil, Major General Assad rose through the ranks of the Syrian Republican Guard before he moved over to the elite 4th Mechanized Division.
