Map of east Aleppo battle after Syrian Army troops captured Jirah Airbase
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) had a successful week in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, liberating several sites from the Islamic State (ISIL) forces in the Deir Hafer Plain.
What started off as a powerful attack on the Islamic State’s positions east of Deir Hafer, ended with the Syrian Arab Army’s complete liberation of the Jirah Military Airbase near the Euphrates River.
Led by the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army’s capture of the Jirah Airbase has endangered the Islamic State’s control over the key town of Maskanah, which is located approximately 14 km south of the Jirah Military Airport.
If the Syrian Army is successful in their endeavor to capture Maskanah, they will ultimately force the Islamic State to abandon several villages east of Jabboul Lake in southeast Aleppo.
