Millions observe the fifth anniversary of General Soleimani’s martyrdom, honoring the late anti-terror commander
In a significant demonstration of reverence, tens of thousands of Iranians have gathered in the southeastern province of Kerman to honor General Qassem Soleimani, a prominent figure in the country's fight against terrorism.
The hometown and burial site of General Soleimani witnessed a massive turnout on Thursday as admirers and followers from diverse backgrounds gathered in snowy conditions to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the revered commander’s martyrdom.
Various cities, including the capital Tehran, are hosting commemorative events and special ceremonies to honor the memory of General Soleimani.
On January 3, 2020, a U.S. drone strike near Baghdad International Airport resulted in the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani, head of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, along with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy leader of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces, and several others. This military action was sanctioned by then-U.S. President Donald Trump.
The two commanders garnered widespread respect throughout West Asia due to their significant contributions in combating the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, particularly in the battlefields of Iraq and Syria.
Within a week of the assault, Iraqi legislators passed a bill mandating the expulsion of all US-led foreign forces from the nation.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a series of missile strikes against the Ain al-Asad airbase, operated by U.S. forces in Iraq’s Anbar province. This action was carried out in response to the killing of General Qassem Soleimani.
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, on Wednesday lauded the exceptional sacrifices made by Iran’s leading anti-terror commander, describing them as “unique.”
The Leader stated that Martyr Soleimani’s unwavering strategy centered on revitalizing the Resistance Front, consistently striving to reinvigorate the resistance movement.
In December, an Iranian court issued a ruling mandating that the United States government, along with several individuals and entities, are liable to pay close to $50 billion in reparations for their involvement in the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani.
