Nearly 300,000 children fled from Lebanon to Syria due to zionist ‘israeli’ atrocities: Save the Children data reveals

The international humanitarian organization Save the Children reports that approximately 300,000 children have fled Lebanon for Syria in the past seven weeks, seeking safety amid escalating hostilities by Israel against Lebanon.

Rasha Muhrez, who serves as the Director of Save the Children’s Syria Response, stated on Tuesday that the influx of children and their families into Syria comes at a time when the nation is grappling with unprecedented humanitarian challenges and facing a severe cost-of-living crisis.

He further stated that an estimated 500,000 children in Syria are in urgent need of life-saving treatment for acute malnutrition—a situation that would have once seemed unimaginable. This crisis persists as the nation remains fractured after years of a conflict exacerbated by foreign intervention.

Murez underscored the pressing requirement for an expedited allocation of resources aimed at addressing the essential needs and recovery efforts for newly displaced children and youth, along with the communities that are accommodating them.

The international organization has highlighted a concerning trend, observing that a significant number of children fleeing the escalating conflict in Lebanon are making the journey without guardians. The organization has issued a warning that these unaccompanied minors face heightened risks of abuse, food scarcity, and illnesses, particularly with the onset of winter.

Save the Children reports that approximately 70 percent of those being displaced from Lebanon to Syria are Syrians, who had previously traveled the opposite route several years earlier. The remaining individuals are either Lebanese nationals or originate from other countries.

The United Nations reports that nearly 60 percent of the individuals are children and adolescents, with a significant number arriving urgently requiring medical attention, shelter, food, and water.

In late September, Israel initiated a ground offensive accompanied by a large-scale air campaign against Lebanon, following a year of cross-border hostilities with Lebanon that coincided with the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Over the past year, Israeli strikes in Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of at least 3,287 individuals, with the majority of casualties occurring within the last seven weeks. Additionally, 14,222 people have sustained injuries, predominantly affecting women and children.

The Lebanese government reports that approximately 1.2 million individuals have been displaced amid Israel’s bombing campaign in Lebanon. This figure notably includes a significant portion of the 1.5 million Syrian refugees who have sought refuge in Lebanon over the past 13 years, following the outbreak of conflict in their homeland.

Amid escalating tensions, the Lebanese resistance organization Hezbollah has launched a series of retaliatory attacks, numbering in the hundreds, targeting both the occupied Palestinian territories and advancing Israeli forces in southern Lebanon.

The movement has pledged to continue its strikes until the regime halts its escalation efforts.
