Nuclear Issue Focus of Oman Talks: Iranian Spokesperson

The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the indirect negotiations with the US in Oman revolved only around Iran’s nuclear program and the removal of sanctions.
Esmaeil Baqaei said in a statement on Sunday that Iran has retained its previous stances in the talks that were held in Muscat on April 12.
Iran has an unchanging policy that the talks must focus on the nuclear issue and the removal of sanctions without any discussion about other topics, he stated.
Reaffirming Iran’s right to protect its nuclear science, technologies, industries, infrastructures and achievements, Baqaei said, “While the Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared for dialogue and interaction to give assurances about the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, we are committed to employing all capacities to protect the legitimate and legal rights of the Iranian nation as a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Safeguards Agreement.”
Delegations from Iran and Oman held a round of indirect talks in Muscat on Saturday, mediated by the foreign minister of Oman.
The two sides, led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the US president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, have expressed satisfaction with the initial steps.
The next round of negotiations is scheduled for April 19.
