Over 15,000 schoolchildren either killed or reported missing in Gaza

The Education Ministry in Gaza has published a recent report detailing the severe effects of Israel's military actions on students and educational facilities within the blockaded Palestinian region.

On Thursday, the Gaza ministry reported that over 15,000 school-aged children have either been killed or are missing amid the regime’s ongoing severe offensive in the region.

The report states that 95 percent of schools and educational facilities in Gaza have sustained direct damage, with 85 percent of these institutions either fully or partially rendered inoperative.

A recent report indicates that over 800 individuals working in the education sector have either lost their lives or have gone missing, while approximately 50,000 students have sustained injuries.

Furthermore, more than 140 educational and administrative structures have been demolished.

The Ministry has reported that Israel’s assaults have resulted in over $3 billion in damages to Gaza’s education sector.

According to a statement from an official within the health ministry, Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip since October 2023 have left over 38,000 Palestinian children orphaned.

According to Zaher al-Wahidi, approximately 32,151 children have been orphaned of their fathers, 4,417 have lost their mothers, and 1,918 have lost both parents.

According to an official statement, the conflict has resulted in the widowhood of at least 13,901 women.

“The statistics underscore the significant hardships endured by the people of Gaza, highlighting an urgent call to action to alleviate the distress of orphans and impacted families and to initiate the rebuilding of their lives,” he stated.

The ongoing 15-month conflict in Gaza has resulted in the displacement of nearly the entire population of 2.3 million residents. This dire situation has compelled many to endure difficult living conditions in temporary shelters, as the region continues to experience heavy bombardment.

The al-Awda Hospital, situated within the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, reported on Thursday that Israel has conducted 520 assaults on hospitals across Gaza throughout the duration of the 15-month conflict.

During the Israeli military’s siege, over 100 ambulance teams were targeted, resulting in the arrest of 2,260 medical personnel. Furthermore, six hospital staff members lost their lives amid the hostilities.

The health and education infrastructure in the Palestinian territories has been significantly devastated following over 15 months of continuous Israeli military operations, which have resulted in widespread fatalities and extensive damage.
