Pro-Palestinian Demonstrators Rally at US Embassy in London amid Global Rallies

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators rallied in front of the US Embassy in London on Saturday as part of a global day of action, condemning Washington’s support for Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and highlighting censorship of Palestinian voices by major tech firms.

Protesters formed a human chain outside the US Embassy in London to denounce an unwavering American support for Israel’s military onslaught in Gaza.

The demonstration featured silence, music, and traditional dance, aiming to send a political message to both the US and UK governments.

The protest in London was one of several actions held globally in a coordinated effort to spotlight what activists call a “genocidal war” against Palestinians.

Elsewhere in London, demonstrators gathered outside the BBC’s offices, accusing the UK’s public broadcaster of contributing to public support for the war by “amplifying misinformation” disseminated by Israeli sources.

In Paris, a week-long series of rallies and marches culminated on Saturday with large crowds condemning Israeli crimes in both Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

Meanwhile, a report by DropSite News said that the Israeli regime is leveraging its relationship with Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, to suppress pro-Palestinian content online.

According to the report, internal Meta data shows that the company complied with 94% of Israeli takedown requests for social media content since October 7, 2023.

More than 90,000 posts were reportedly removed following such requests, many of which were classified under categories such as “terrorism, violence, or incitement.”

“These takedown requests allow individuals, organizations, and government officials to request the removal of content that allegedly violates Meta’s policies,” the report stated.

The majority of the targeted users were based in Arab and Muslim-majority countries, DropSite reported.

“What makes Israel’s campaign unique is its success in censoring speech in many countries outside of Israel,” the investigation noted.

The report also claimed that Meta is training AI systems to replicate this content moderation pattern in the future.

“This censorship project will echo well into the future,” DropSite quoted unnamed insiders as saying.

The data was reportedly obtained from whistleblowers with access to internal Meta systems.

A related investigation by The Grayzone revealed that over 100 current Meta employees are former Israeli soldiers or intelligence operatives.

Among them is Meta’s head of AI policy, who served in the Israeli military through a government program that enlists non-Israelis.

“These former military personnel are stationed across Meta’s US and Tel Aviv offices, with many specializing in artificial intelligence,” The Grayzone reported.

The report added that Israel’s historic use of AI in surveillance and military operations raises concerns about the implications of such hires.

Earlier investigations have drawn similar conclusions about other tech companies, including Google, sparking broader concerns over potential pro-Israel influence in US-based technology firms.

As the genocidal war in Gaza continues, digital rights groups and social media users have intensified accusations that platforms like Facebook are systematically silencing Palestinian perspectives.
