Rally in Chilean capital to support Palestinian people
Hundreds of Chilean demonstrators have taken part in a march in the capital city, Santiago, in support of the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip.
The demonstration, which was organized by various social groups, crowded a main central avenue of the capital, passing by the Presidential Palace.
Chile is home to a large Palestinian community of around 500,000, many of whose members are descendants of Arab immigrants from the 19th and 20th centuries.
One of the country’s most popular soccer teams is Palestino, whose white, black, green, and red uniforms match the colors of the Palestinian flag.
Chile has recently joined a group of nations supporting a genocide case against Israel filed by South Africa last year at the International Court of Justice.
