Several militants killed fleeing famed Crusader fort: Syria army
Syrian troops have killed several militants as they fled the village of Al-Hosn, home to famed Crusader castle Krak des Chevaliers, for the nearby Lebanese border, a military source says.
“During the operations in the Al-Hosn area, armed men tried to flee for Lebanese territory. They fell to an ambush laid by the army, and 11 armed men were killed,” the source told AFP.
The Syrian army took control of castle Krak des Chevaliers in the Homs countryside on Thursday, following clashes which left tens of militants dead.
The latest army inroad on foreign-backed militants follows Syrian forces’ other achievements in the country’s west, including in the cities of Yabroud and Homs.
Backed by the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, Syrian forces on Sunday pushed back foreign-backed militants from Yabroud, the last major militant stronghold in the Qalamoun region.
