Syria Calls for UN Urgent Action to Stop Israeli Violations against Qods, Al-Aqsa
In a statement issued after its meeting on Sunday at the al-Jalaa Hotel in al-Mazzeh, the Association called for the immediate implementation of resolution no. 2334 calling on the Israeli authorities to immediately and completely halt all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories as well as all relevant UN resolutions, SANA reported.
Deadly clashes have rocked occupied Jerusalem since Israeli authorities installed metal detectors at entrances to the Haram al-Sharif compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, following an attack on July 14, which killed two policemen.
Palestinian nationals view the measure as an Israeli attempt to assert further control over the site, the third most holy place in Islam and the most revered site in Judaism.
The compound, which includes the revered Al-Aqsa mosque and the Dome of the Rock, has been the focal point of tensions between Israelis and Palestinians for decades.
