Syria condemned Israeli airstrike on Palmyra
Syria has issued a stern condemnation of Israel's latest airstrike on the central city of Palmyra, which resulted in the deaths of 36 individuals. The Syrian government characterized the attack as a continuation of what it terms as Israel’s persistent criminal actions in the region.
In a statement released on Wednesday through the official Syrian news agency SANA, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates vehemently condemned an airstrike by Israeli forces, which reportedly targeted residential buildings in the city, labeling it as a brutal attack.
The ministry reported that Israeli aircraft conducted airstrikes in Palmyra today, resulting in the tragic loss of 36 lives and injuring numerous others. The aerial attack targeted residential buildings, causing significant damage to the structures and the surrounding area.
The ministry emphasized that the actions undertaken by the Tel Aviv regime in Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine pose a substantial threat to the security and stability of the region.
In a recent statement, Syria has urged the global community to adopt a decisive position against the severe atrocities being perpetrated by the occupying force in the region. The government emphasized the necessity of holding the leaders of this entity accountable for their actions and ensuring that they face justice without evasion.
In a distinct report, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), referencing an anonymous military source, stated that an Israeli assault took place at 1:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday (1030 GMT), originating from al-Tanf, an area in the central province of Homs occupied by US forces.
“The attack left over 50 individuals injured,” a source informed the news agency, noting that the targeted structures and nearby areas suffered “substantial” material damage.
The ancient city of Palmyra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is distinguished for its historical Roman temple complex, which experienced substantial damage amid the onset of the conflict in Syria in 2011, supported by Western nations.
In a significant development back in 2015, the city fell into the hands of the Daesh terrorist organization. However, the Syrian army successfully regained control, concluding a 10-month period during which several of the site’s most renowned historical monuments suffered destruction.
Since 2011, Israel has conducted numerous military strikes on the nation, targeting various locations as part of its ongoing regional security operations.
