Syria could become breeding ground for terrorists: zionist Rice
A senior aide to US President Barack Obama has warned against the rise of terrorism in Syria, saying the crisis-hit country could soon become a breeding ground for terrorist networks aiming to operate worldwide.
Obama’s national security adviser, Susan Rice, said on Sunday that Washington is now primarily concerned about fragmentation of Syria and the terrorist threat stemming from the country.
The remarks are in direct contradiction to the US official line of supporting militants who have been fighting against the Syrian government over the past three years.
In late January, US lawmakers secretly approved the provision of US arms to militants in Syria through the end of the 2014 fiscal year, which ends on September 30, according to a report by Reuters.
The Reuters report, which was based on information provided by US and European security officials, also said that most of the US weapons are being delivered to foreign-backed militants in the south of Syria via Jordan.
The United States is also said to have stepped up its financial support for the militants.
However, the rise of extremism and the al-Qaeda-linked militancy seem to have turned into a matter of concern for Washington.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian Intelligence Service (NIS) has expressed concern over an increased “terrorist threat” to the country due to dozens of Norwegian nationals fighting in Syria.
The NIS has added that they run the risk of returning as seasoned radical militants.
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011.
According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies — Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
