Syrian Army Advancing Towards the Water Plant in Aleppo City
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) – backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF), the Palestinian militia “Liwaa Al-Quds” (Jerusalem Brigades), and Kata’ebat Al-Ba’ath (Ba’ath Battalions) – have made a rapid series of advances at the eastern sector of Aleppo City, marking the first time in eight months that the Syrian Armed Forces have gained ground in the provincial capital.
On Sunday morning, the Syrian Armed Forces continued where they left off on Saturday night, attacking a joint contingent of Islamist militias from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and Jabhat Al-Shamiyah (Levantine Front) at the Suleiman Al-Halabi, Bustan Al-Basha, and the Al-Layramoun Districts of Aleppo City.
According to a military source from the 4th Mechanized Division in Aleppo City, the Syrian Armed Forces captured a number of points in the Suleiman Al-Halabi District, including the Arab School for Electrical Engineering and the Social Insurance Building after intense clashes with Jabhat Al-Nusra, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, and Jabhat Al-Shamiyah en route to the Water Plant.
The source further added that the Syrian Armed Forces killed an estimated 20 enemy combatants, while also destroying two armored vehicles that were mounted with a 23mm anti-aircraft machine gun.
To the north of Aleppo City, the Syrian Armed Forces and Islamist rebels continued to clash at the northeastern entrance of Al-Bureijj, resulting in the death of 4 SAA soldiers and 7 fighters from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham inside this town.
West of Al-Bureijj, Jabhat Al-Nusra – in coordination with Jund Al-Aqsa and Jaysh Al-Mujahiddeen – attempted to breach the Syrian Armed Forces’ frontline defenses at the town of Handarat; however, they were unsuccessful in this military endeavor, as the Syrian Armed Forces repelled the attack.
