Syrian Army denies ISIS reached outskirts of key border-city
A source from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) told Al-Masdar News this morning that all reports claiming ISIS has reached the outskirts of Albukamal city are untrue.
According to the source, ISIS did in fact advance, initially, during their big assault near Albukamal this past weekend.
However, the source added that the Syrian Army managed to retake the initiative near Albukamal, resulting in the recapture of Hasarat, Jalaa, and Saiyal.
The Syrian Army is now on high alert, as ISIS is preparing to launch another big assault to reach the border-city of Albukamal.
Albukamal was once an ISIS stronghold that linked their forces in both Iraq and Syria; it was liberated by the Syrian Army late last year.
