Syrian Army Destroys 8 Armored Vehicles in Northeast Latakia; Advances in Salma
On Saturday, the Syrian Arab Army’s Special Forces (Qawat Al-Khassa) – in cooperation with the National Defense Forces (NDF) – destroyed 8 armored vehicles belonging to the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” (Victory Front) and the Free Syrian Army’s “Coastal Brigade” in 4 towns along the northeastern countryside of the Latakia Governorate.
The SAA and NDF destroyed an armored vehicle mounted with 23mm machine gun that belonged to Jabhat Al-Nusra in Salma, while also killing 14 enemy combatants and injuring another 59 near the Al-Ahmad Apple Orchards in the northwestern part of town.
In conjunction with their attack at the Al-Ahmad Apple Orchards, the SAA and NDF also destroyed a large weapons warehouse that contained a large stockpile of automatic weapons, ammunition, RPGs, and contents to produce IEDs.
According to a military source in Latakia, the SAA and NDF targeted a number of sites in the villages of Al-Daweerakat (armed vehicle destroyed), Araa, Tartiyah (2 armed vehicles destroyed), Marj Al-Zawiyah (armed truck destroyed), and Khan Al-Jouz (BMP and 2 other armed vehicles destroyed) – these villages are all located in Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains).
Jabhat Al-Nusra attempted to infiltrate the NDF’s frontline defenses at Doreen on Sunday; however, their attack was beaten back by the latter, as the Al-Qaeda group was unable to break-through their fortifications in the northeast part of the town.
