Syrian Army Downs a Reconnaissance Drone and Destroys a Tunnel in Aleppo
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has downed unmanned reconnaissance aircraft that was seen flying over the As-Safira District in southern Aleppo on Sunday morning.
According to a military source, the reconnaissance drone circled the SAA’s positions around As-Safira and Tal ‘Arn before it was ordered to be downed by the local officers inside these two towns.
After examining the downed drone, it was believed to have belonged to the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra”; thus, becoming the 7th drone to be downed by the Syrian Armed Forces in the last 40 days.
Over the last month, Jabhat Al-Nusra has targeted the SAA’s primary supply route on the Khanaser Highway, increasing the prevalence of their attacks and even forcing the latter to close the road due to security reasons at least twice in March.
SAA engineering units discovered a large tunnel under the New Aleppo Quarter of the provincial capital; this resulted in the engineers demolishing the tunnel and killing up to 25 enemy combatants from Jabhat Al-Nusra.
