Syrian Army reinforcements pour into Palmyra for tough battle at Sukhnah
A large number of Syrian Army reinforcements arrived in Palmyra, Tuesday, following orders from their High Command about the mass mobilization for the upcoming battle of Sukhnah.
With the strategic Arak Triangle liberated, the Syrian Arab Army has shifted their focus to Sukhnah, which was one of the first towns to fall to the Islamic State (ISIL) forces during their Spring 2015 offensive.
While Arak’s liberation was difficult, the Syrian Arab Army’s High Command expects this upcoming battle at Sukhnah to be far more bloody and far more complex, as many tribal fighters in the region are loyal to ISIL.
However, if the Syrian Army is successful in this offensive, they will have a clear path to the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
