Syrian Army’s 60th Brigade liberates several points in NE Palmyra
The Syrian Arab Army’s 60th Brigade of the 11th Tank Division, backed by the 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division and National Defense Forces (NDF), advanced towards the ‘Arak Gas Fields from the Palmyra (Tamdur) Grain Silos on Saturday after a violent battle with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).
The 60th Brigade and their allies were able liberate several small hilltops that are located at the northern flank of the Grain Silos, building a larger buffer-zone between Palmyra City and the desert village of ‘Arak. With the liberation of the Grain Silos and their corresponding hilltops this weekend, the Syrian Armed Forces are now within 13 km of ‘Arak, which is a key village that is located along the International Highway to the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
The gains made by ISIS earlier this week have been mostly reversed; however, intense firefights continue near the Al-Sha’ar Gas Fields and ‘Antar Mountains.
