Syrian government forces on the verge of seizing an important town in rural Damascus
On Wednesday, Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continued its military operation against militants of Jaish Al-Islam (Army of Islam) group in Hawsh Al-Dawahra town in East Ghouta region of Damascus province.
Having scored significant gains after Tuesday’s assault, units of the 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard alongside with Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) and National Defense Forces (NDF) pushed deeper into militant-held town capturing more than 80 per cent of its territory.
During intense firefights, SAA troops managed to destroy a T-62 tank and a pickup truck mounted with a machinegun. On the other hand, islamists were able to damage one of the SAA tanks.
Military source told Al-Masdar News correspondent in Damascus that only a couple of buildings and a farmland are currently remaining under Jaish Al-Islam control, while most of the town’s territory is liberated by government troops.

Despite fierce resistance, Jaish Al-Islam failed to forestall government forces advance, so Hawsh Al-Dawahra is likely to be completely liberated in the next one or two days.
