Syrian opposition forces set to re-emerge within a year, says General Rezaei

Major General Mohsen Rezaei has declared that Syrians are poised to rejuvenate the resistance movement within their nation, aiming to thwart what he described as the malicious and deceitful strategies of the United States and the Zionist regime, within the coming year.

Major General Mohsen Rezaei, the former chief commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), asserted on his X account that the resilient youth and people of Syria are determined to oppose foreign occupation and aggression, as well as internal authoritarianism by certain groups.

Rezaei stated that within a year’s time, Syrians are poised to reinvigorate their resistance efforts in a novel manner, effectively countering the perceived malicious strategies of the United States, the Zionist regime, and other regional actors that have been involved in geopolitical maneuvering.

In a startling turn of events, militant factions spearheaded by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) seized control of Damascus on December 8, effectively declaring the cessation of Bashar al-Assad’s administration. The unexpected offensive originated from the insurgents’ bastion in northwestern Syria, enabling them to capture the capital in under two weeks.

The HTS militant organization, backed by the United States and its regional partners, has pledged to establish an inclusive government. However, the United Nations describes the situation as “fluid.”

Regional nations have called upon Syrians to take measures to prevent further disorder following the takeover of the capital, Damascus, by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

Syria’s stability and future are currently under threat due to several key issues. These include the illegal occupation of Syrian territories by Israel, attributed to its expansionist policies, as well as the ongoing presence of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the country’s northeast, a group receiving support from the United States.

Further complications arise from human rights violations committed against minority groups by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militants, coupled with worsening humanitarian crises.
