Syrian President expresses interest in visiting North Korea
Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad expressed interest in making an official visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Rodong Sinmun reported this weekend.
According to the North Korean publication, Assad expressed interest in visiting the DPRK after receiving the diplomatic credentials of the North Korean envoy to Syria on May 30th.
The last Syrian leader to visit North Korea was Hafezh Al-Assad; his son Bashar has yet to make the trip.
North Korea and Syria enjoy warm diplomatic ties, which initially began under the leadership of Hafezh Al-Assad and Kim Jung Il.
