The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier is departing the Red Sea following incidents near the coast of Yemen
The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier is set to depart from the waters of the Red Sea following a series of sustained missile and drone attacks by Yemeni naval forces last week.
The United States Naval Institute (USNI) reports that a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier has joined the US 7th Fleet, marking the second occasion in over a year that the region of West Asia is without a carrier presence.
In June, the US Navy experienced a brief absence of a carrier strike group in the region as the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower transitioned into the Mediterranean and the USS Theodore Roosevelt headed towards the United States Central Command (CENTCOM).
The USS Theodore Roosevelt’s deployment in June facilitated the departure of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, marking the end of its seven-month mission in West Asia.
The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group made its strategic entry into the West Asia region in August, joining forces with the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group. This joint presence was maintained until the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group concluded its mission and departed in September.
The USS Abraham Lincoln has exited the waters of the Red Sea following a declaration on November 12 by the spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces. The statement detailed that Yemen’s naval units had executed two significant military operations targeting US warships. These actions were reportedly in response to American and British military attacks on Yemen and in support of Palestinian and Lebanese communities amidst ongoing Israeli hostilities.
Brigadier General Yahya Sarea announced that a military operation was conducted, targeting American aircraft in the Arabian Sea. The assault involved the use of several cruise missiles and drones.
He highlighted that the operation was a success, effectively preventing planned attacks by the United States against Yemen.
Saree stated that another operation had been launched against two American destroyers stationed in the Red Sea, employing a variety of ballistic missiles and drones. He emphasized that the operation “successfully met its objectives.”
He reported that the operations were conducted over a span of eight hours.
Saree has attributed responsibility to the United States and the United Kingdom for escalating military tensions in the Red Sea region, highlighting the negative implications for maritime navigation.
The people of Yemen have publicly voiced their backing for Palestine’s resistance against Israeli occupation following the onset of a severe conflict in Gaza. The war, initiated by Israel on October 7, 2023, came in response to Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, conducted by Palestinian resistance movements against Israeli forces.
The Yemeni Armed Forces have declared their intent to persist with their military actions until Israel ceases its ground and air operations in the Gaza Strip.
As of now, Israeli actions have resulted in the deaths of at least 43,922 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, with 103,898 others reported injured in the Gaza region.
