Just days following the wedding photo session, the same individual captured global attention as he appeared on television screens across the world, donning a green camouflage military uniform with his face obscured by a black cloth.

The once-timid smile evolved into a commanding voice as he addressed the audience, capturing the attention of listeners worldwide.

Naji Abu Saif, also widely recognized by his alias Abu Hamza, gained significant prominence following the landmark Al Aqsa Storm Operation on October 7, 2023. The event was pivotal in revealing vulnerabilities within Israel’s heavily touted military and intelligence systems.

In a recent development, the military spokesperson for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), widely acknowledged as a key figure in the resistance, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Tuesday in the central Gaza Strip.

The Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine has announced the death of its senior figure, Naji Abu Saif, also known as Abu Hamza, who served as the spokesperson for the Al-Quds Brigades, the group’s military wing. In a statement to the Palestinian population and wider Arab and Islamic communities, the organization confirmed that Abu Saif was killed in an attack attributed to Israeli forces, which they described as treacherous and also implicated in targeting his and his brother’s families.

In a compelling address following the successful operation, Abu Hamza stated, “We undertook this mission with faith in God, having left our homes, families, and belongings, fully cognizant of the immense responsibility that rests upon us and our community.”

On October 15, 2023, Abu Hamza released a statement that challenged the notion of the Zionist military’s invulnerability.

“In the aftermath of our recent triumph within your organization, we invite you to face us directly. We have assembled fighters who embrace martyrdom with as much fervor as you cling to life. Thus, we extend a somber invitation to the battleground.”

In March 2024, Abu Hamza delivered a statement emphasizing the enduring importance of Palestine to the Arab world, highlighting its significant role within the Muslim community.

In a recent statement, the speaker emphasized a call to action among Arab nations, underscoring the significance of the disputed land as historically and religiously tied to Arab Palestinian heritage. Citing the Holy Quran, the speaker urged for collective efforts to reclaim what is described as occupied territory. The appeal drew parallels between religious practices such as prayer and fasting, and the necessity of concerted efforts, including armed struggle, to support the Palestinian cause. Additionally, a strong sentiment was conveyed linking solidarity with the Palestinian issue to the broader Islamic identity.

Abu Hamza has conveyed his appreciation to the Palestinian populace, lauding their steadfastness amidst what he described as Israel’s devastating military operations in Gaza. These operations have reportedly resulted in the loss of almost 50,000 lives since October 2023.

He praised the unwavering resilience of the brave citizens, who have etched remarkable tales of heroism through their sacrifices. He called upon the population to unify and support the ongoing efforts during this challenging period, emphasizing that victory would come with the eventual defeat of the adversary.

In December 2023, Abu Hamza announced that the Al-Quds Brigade was actively involved in urban combat against Israeli forces in Gaza, reportedly resulting in the deaths of several Israeli soldiers.

“We remain unwavering in our stance, refusing to capitulate or signal any retreat, regardless of the duration of the conflict. Today’s struggle transcends the goals of quelling the resistance or securing the release of captives; it is a broader confrontation with the Palestinian populace and their steadfast Resistance.”

Abu Hamza announced in June 2024 that in recent weeks, multiple sniper operations have been conducted, targeting adversary soldiers and snipers across various incursion zones. He further reported the disabling and destruction of several dozen vehicles in Rafah, Jabalia, Al-Zaytoun, and on the outskirts of the central governorate using tandem shells, high-explosive barrel bombs, and Ababil.

The spokesperson announced that forces had successfully brought down 11 Israeli aircraft, including models such as “SkyLark” and “Quadcopter,” along with various other intelligence and reconnaissance drones, during the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Abu Hamza reaffirmed the resilience of the resistance, asserting that it remains “in great shape” and pledged that the sustained strategy of exhaustion will ultimately force the occupation to withdraw from Gaza.

In a statement delivered on July 6, 2024, he emphasized the spiritual resilience that underpins the resistance movement against Zionist occupation.

The resistance movement, despite being limited in terms of equipment and manpower, draws significant strength from its moral and ideological foundations. These elements serve as a powerful source of motivation and spiritual sustenance, enabling the group to confront its adversaries with remarkable calm and courage.

In a series of video addresses, he underscored the gravity of the situation, highlighting that the Palestinian resistance is entrenched in a crucial struggle for survival across Gaza and the West Bank. He firmly stated that “the triumph of the resistance is unavoidable.”

In a resolute statement delivered on July 16, 2024, Abu Hamza affirmed the unwavering commitment of the resistance organization to the Palestinian cause. He declared that no matter the circumstances, even if the sun were placed in their right hand and the moon in their left, they would persist in defending Al-Quds, Gaza, Palestine, and every part of their cherished homeland until their land is restored, or they face demise in the effort.

In the same video address, he discussed the strengths and capabilities of the resistance groups.

Abu Hamza stated that their resistance forces are actively involved in highly intricate and challenging urban warfare. He emphasized that their training and preparation have been meticulously aligned with their capabilities and resources, producing outcomes that reflect the strategic objectives of their military operations.

According to statements from relevant forces, adversaries are aware that engaging in prolonged conflict in Gaza will not ultimately further their goals. This is attributed to the extensive and varied arsenal at the forces’ disposal, along with their continued capacity to produce equipment under challenging conditions.

In a statement earlier this year, Abu Hamza issued a cautionary message to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, asserting that Palestinians have cultivated a “new generation ready to confront adversaries, regardless of the duration required.”

He highlighted the perceived threat posed by the Zionist regime, urging the international community to recognize what he described as Israel’s desperation, evident in its deployment of thousands of troops into a small city and its bombardment of residential homes, mosques, churches, and universities using American-supplied missiles.

“However, the efforts have not succeeded in quelling our resistance, nor have they managed to recover their prisoners, with the outcome being largely characterized by widespread destruction and devastation.”

In the wake of Iran’s military retaliation, named Operation True Promise 2, against Israel, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) extended their thanks to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He extended his greetings to Iran, praising its role in undermining the pride of the occupying force during the ‘True Promise I and II’ operations on the streets of Tel Aviv, he stated.

In a recent statement, Abu Hamza announced that the Axis of Resistance has acted in defense of 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide. He further emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been steadfast in offering comprehensive support to the Palestinian people.

On January 21, he additionally extended his appreciation to Hezbollah and Yemen for their steadfast support, recognizing their contributions in the fight against occupation.

In a statement, commendations were extended to the members of Hezbollah, acknowledging the leadership of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and honoring the memory of martyred comrades, both leaders and fighters.

Abu Hamza declared that the Palestinian resistance was engaged in a struggle against what he termed the “occupation,” aligning with allies in Yemen, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran, representing the interests of 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide. He emphasized that it was both a religious and national obligation to oppose the occupation using all available means, placing trust in divine guidance for their efforts.

In recognition of Yemen’s steadfast backing of Palestinian resistance, Abu Hamza extended his greetings, stating, “Respect to our compatriots in Yemen and their valiant leader, Sayyed Abdulmalik al-Houthi, who have deployed missiles and drones in a direct offensive against the core of the entity.”

In the wake of Abu Hamza’s reported death, social media users globally have turned to X (previously known as Twitter) to express their condolences and honor the memory of the Al-Quds Brigades’ youthful spokesperson.

Afghan journalist S. Haidar Hashmi has lauded Abu Hamza for his courageous actions, highlighting his bravery in recent events.

A journalist based in Kandahar tweeted that Abu Hamza, who is often recognized for his role as a spokesman, was also a formidable combatant. In addition to his communications duties, he frequently joined his fellow fighters in direct confrontations against occupying forces.

Japanese journalist and human rights advocate Thoton Akimoto was lauded for his distinctive style.
