US anti-ISL fight targeting Syria resistance: Iran cmdr.
The United States seeks to destroy Syria’s infrastructure and the resistance front in the Middle East under the guise of fighting the ISIL Takfiri terrorists, a senior Iranian commander says.
Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri, a deputy chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, said on Friday that Washington has used the terrorist groups operating in the region as a tool to “destroy Syria and the axis of resistance.”
Terror groups such as the ISIL are a creature of Washington and other foreign elements, the top general added.
“Using the largest current of state terrorism in the past three years, the US has attempted to take this chain of regional resistance off the track, but the resistance of the Syrian government and nation prevented the US and its partners from achieving this evil goal,” Jazayeri stated.
The Iranian commander also called for vigilance in the face of “sinister scenarios” by the US and other hegemonic powers in Iraq and Syria.
Since September 23, Washington and its allies have been conducting airstrikes against ISIL inside Syria without authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate.
American-led warplanes have also conducted hundreds of strikes against ISIL in Iraq since mid-August. The raids have so far failed to halt ISIL advances.
