US beefing up support for terrorists in Syria
The United States continues to sponsor terrorists in Syria by sending them more and more cash and arms, an analyst tells Press TV.
“I think the US government has been for the last two and a half years pumping money and guns and particularly heavier and heavier weapons to the insurgents [in Syria],” Bryan Becker, with the ANSWER coalition, told Press TV in an interview.
He further underlined that Washington’s allies in the region serve as a conduit for the shipment of arms to Syria terrorists in a coordinated attempt by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
“The fact is that these weapons coming through Qatar, coming through Saudi Arabia, coming through Turkey, being coordinated by the CIA in Jordan, all of it is has gone to all the different wings of the armed groups that are fighting to overthrow the Syrian government,” Becker noted.
The commentator underscored that high on the Western intelligence services’ agenda is to topple the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
“The meeting that took place … last week in Washington between all the intelligence chiefs that are supporting the armed insurgent groups, they’re going through a restructuring, but I don’t think that they have dropped as a priority the overthrow of the government of Bashar al-Assad,” he stated.
The analyst pinpointed that the Western support for Syria militants is entering a new stage.
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011. Over 130,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the conflict.
