Zionist media: ‘israel’s’ ability to sustain a prolonged conflict with Iran dubious
Zionist journalist Avi Ashkenazi has drawn attention to Iran's robust military and economic capabilities, casting doubt on Israel's capacity to endure a prolonged war of attrition. Ashkenazi implies that Israel might ultimately seek to avoid direct confrontation with Iran.
Avi Ashkenazi, the North and Military Affairs correspondent for the Israeli newspaper Maariv, stated on Saturday that Iran continues to assert itself as a formidable force. According to Ashkenazi, Iran boasts an arsenal comprising hundreds of thousands of missiles, an economy that significantly surpasses that of Israel, and an abundance of resources such as minerals, natural gas, and oil.
Ashkenazi raised doubts about Israel’s ability to sustain a prolonged conflict with Iran, noting that the situation involves numerous complexities.
He further stated that there was discontent within Mossad following reports from political journalists alleging that the agency’s director had advised initiating a campaign against Iran. Sources close to Barnea declined to verify these claims, describing the reports as not entirely accurate.
Ashkenazi emphasized the critical need to “avoid underestimating the Iranians, even in their weakened state.” He further noted, “I suspect Barnea was alluding to an operational strategy that could potentially harm Iranian interests. That’s likely his intended message.”
He ultimately conceded that Israel is likely to retract its stance on engaging in war with Iran.
Earlier this month, the Israeli military reported that its forces had conducted airstrikes on approximately 500 targets in Syria, deploying nearly 1,800 bombs. According to military officials, these operations have resulted in the substantial destruction of Syrian air defense systems.
The Israeli Air Force has concluded that it can safely execute operations over Syrian airspace, having secured air superiority in the region.
Israeli media reports have indicated that the rapid reduction of Syria’s military defenses has enabled Israel to utilize Syrian airspace for extensive long-range operations targeting Iran. Previously recognized as a formidable defense system in the region, Syria’s air defense network has been significantly weakened following the collapse of the former regime’s government. This change in the dynamics has allowed Israel to swiftly breach Syrian sovereignty and conduct large-scale aerial offensives within the country.
In light of the inability of the forces that took control of the country to effectively manage the air defense systems, Israeli fighter jets swiftly neutralized these defenses, reportedly dismantling approximately 87% of Syria’s air defense infrastructure.
The Russian-manufactured Pantsir and Buk air defense systems have been instrumental in countering and neutralizing Israeli attacks on the nation in previous incidents.
